Transitioning to a new career, especially as demanding as a career in Product Management, is a challenging journey.

Here are just some of the questions that may come to your mind when you think about transitioning to a Product Manager role:

  • What do I need to get started as a Product Manager?

  • Do I need a product certification to get into Product Management?

  • Is MBA required to become a PM?

  • What skills do I need to transition to a Product role?

  • Do I have to learn how to code to transition to Product?

  • I'm a non-techy person, so can I still work as a PM, or shall I give up my dream?

  • What project can I join to learn product management?

  • Everyone says to build a product to get skills. But I don't even know where to start!

  • How do I make my application stand out and get hired?

Sound familiar?

Good news:

Once you understand how to position your existing relevant Product skills (yes, you have those) and what you need to cover skill gaps, the path to the Product becomes clear and feasible.

Hi, I'm Anna -

Founder and Head of Product at Futureversity - an Edutech platform helping people advance their product management skills.

I'm also a Product Management mentor who's helped over 100 (and counting!) students and mentees to move to Product Management from various backgrounds, including Consulting, Engineering, Design, Operations, Finance, and more.

I transitioned to Product Management from Consulting industry, and I know first-hand how overwhelming this journey is.

My transition taught me two main things:

  • You don't have to start from the ground up.

You, who are currently working in other functions such as Sales, Marketing, Customer Support, Customer Success, or Engineering team, already have some of the skills that a Product Manager needs!

These are so-called "transferable skills."

To get the first Product role, I used examples of consultant's transferable skills to demonstrate how I can solve complicated problems as a Product Manager.

  • It's up to you to create opportunities to learn and grow.

There is no point in waiting for someone to give you a chance to work on a project in exchange for the experience or to showcase what you are capable of.

To cover my skill gaps, I took the initiative and created my first Product - I've built an app prototype for live workouts for busy consultants unable to keep their fitness routine.

The career transition to Product opened new doors for me. I had a chance to build products for various industries - logistics, commodity trading, finance, AI and natural language processing, and different markets - from Europe to Asia.

My journey was long and had many bumps, but I made it.

So will you!

If those things speak to you, let's start your new career journey now.

Introducing…

An eight-week online program designed to get you ahead with product management skills and experience - ones you can showcase and speak confidently during your job application and rely on at work.

The program follows a structured step-by-step framework of building your first Product end-to-end without coding (yes - that's possible!), without getting overwhelmed, and without guessing what to do at each step of product development.

The next program cohort starts in June 2024

What makes the program effective?

It equips you with three essential components to acquire relevant skills, land your first (or next) role in Product, and continue growing your expertise over time.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

that you’ll get by building a product from idea to launch, following frameworks and methodologies of the end-to-end product development process. Not just book knowledge but practical advice and know-how from industry experts.

PRODUCT PORTFOLIO

CV is overrated. Show hiring managers what Product you have built. The program will help you get started with your product portfolio to illustrate your relevant skills and thought process (including your transferable skills).

PRODUCT ROADMAP

that maps out possible future directions for improving your Product - so that you can keep evolving it way beyond the Product Incubation Program, growing your skills even further in the process.

How it works

“Product Incubation Program is an entirely different experience from the typical online course. From day one, you get immersed in a structured yet creative process of building a product. In addition, the program provides a very supportive environment - you get an accountability partner to stay on track with deliverables and live Q&As to clarify things. Now I have a deeper understanding of all the PM teams' work and can support them better as a key stakeholder.”

Anastasia Reyes Mcallister,

Fintech

“I joined FutureVersity to learn more about the business side of product development. The product incubation program makes you hustle and ship something valuable for real users in just eight weeks. And special kudos for promoting no-code tools for building things. Doing so gives software engineers like me more time to work on complicated tasks and helps widen the tech world with more diverse people.”

Dmitri Borisov, Software Engineer

“I had the pleasure to meet Anna when we were doing an MBA program in Singapore business school. We worked together on many challenging projects, and Anna proved herself a trusted partner and natural leader. She is very professional and a true expert in the product management domain. I learned so much from her, and I'm glad to see that she is now running this program.”

When you join the Product Incubation, you get...

Pre-recorded lessons released each week

Lessons are released weekly so you can work through the entire program step by step and without jumping ahead and getting overwhelmed.

You'll also have lifetime access to the lessons, so you can work through them at your own pace and return to them every time you need to refresh a particular topic.

Comprehensive frameworks & methodologies

of the end-to-end product development process that product managers use daily. You need to be aware of, practice, and master them to build great products that customers love.

Live weekly Q&A sessions with your instructor

Not sure what product idea to choose? Or how to conduct a customer discovery interview? Got stuck with deciding on the ideal scope for your Minimum Viable Product? Great! You ask the questions, and I'll provide you the answers.

Round-the-clock access to your peers in a cozy group space

This is where you'll connect with the other students in the program to ask questions, give and receive support, and get an extra hit of accountability.

The community will be hosted at our Product Incubation online platform so you can have instant access to peer support and feedback.

Lots of practice

The entire learning experience is based on practice and real-life application of theories that you will learn every week.

So you'll become a Product Manager from Day 1 of the program and decide what direction to go with your Product - like you will be doing in the real-life product manager role.

Follow-along project

Unlike the other programs where instructors only teach things and provide recommendations, I'll work hand in hand with you. I'll be creating my brand new Product, following the program curriculum with you.

You'll be able not only to ask me any questions about my work process but also become the very first users of the Product.

FAQs

  • Content access is for life with unlimited free updates.

  • Yes, the program includes live weekly Q&A sessions with the instructor. Just drop by with your open questions (session recordings will be provided as well).

  • We strongly advise you to follow the practical exercises to get the most out of the program.

First, having a product you built end-to-end in your portfolio will significantly increase your chances of getting a PM job. In Product Management, as in most things really, you need a mix of theory and practice to do your job. And without practice, without proof that you can make things happen, people won't take you seriously and won't trust even your soundest theoretical judgment.

Second, building a product during the program will help you make an informed career decision on if you really should go into Product Management. It will act as a reality check and help you avoid the hype traps of getting into a trendy career that does not suit you and that you end up hating eventually. The PM role requires a lot of work, dedication, commitment, and knowledge - this is not one of those roles where you can spend eight hours per day and switch off your brain after work. You need to at least like it to excel.

And lastly, your product can be not just a first trial of your product muscle. It can become your side hustle with a solid passive income as well, and - who knows - maybe it will grow to be your leading venture someday.

  • No worries. The program is designed in a way that you will be able to build at least an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) without writing a single line of code yourself. In the program, we will teach you modern no-code tools to create your first product. No-code is a popular and promising alternative to traditional software development for non-techy people to build their applications.

  • Doing so is a better option than just passively reading books or watching videos, but bear in mind that your takeaways will be pretty limited. Startups, by their nature, have very unstructured ad hoc processes. Without previous experience being a PM, you'll be struggling to grasp your end-to-end responsibilities and expectations from the role. Also, in a startup, you are often playing multiple roles, and the borders between roles are blurry.

On the other hand, the Product Incubation Program gives you a comprehensive picture of the end-to-end product management process, frameworks, and methodologies and the opportunity to put them into practice while working on your Product.

  • Just join us with a lot of energy and drive to start your exploration of the product management world! Don't forget your laptop with stable internet to watch the pre-recorded videos and work on your project.

  • In the unlikely event of technical issues with our platform, please shoot us an email at contact@futureversity.io.
